It wasn’t that long ago that we left the first decade of the new millennium behind. Now it is time to name the best team from that era. The way this team was put together is simple. Everyone that played between 2000 and 2010 is eligible. From all of those players, make the very best team you possible can.
1. Bill Slater
He moved from the wing to fullback and never looked back. He has made an impact at every level he has played at.
2. Israel Folau
While he didn’t play all that many seasons his impact was huge and there is no doubting that he of the players available you’d pick him first.
3. Greg Inglis
When its all said and done Greg Inglis will be talked about as one of the greatest players of all time. Incredibly by the end of the decade he was only 23 years old and had still achieved so much!
4. Justin Hodges
Its hard to leave him out of the side. Was a great player at the Broncos, then Roosters, and then back to the Broncos. Was also a regular in the Queensland and Australian side throughout the decade.
5. Anthony Minichello
Started his career off as a winger but became the worlds best fullback. Moved to the wing because you simply could not leave him out of this side.
6. Darren Lockyer
He started the decade off as one of the best fullbacks of all time and ended it as one of the best five-eighths of all time. No need to question why he would be the captain of this team.
7. Andrew Johns
While he retired before the decade was out there is no doubt Johns is the first halfback you would select.
8. Shane Webcke
The standard by which all great front rowers are measured. He was as good in the last minute of the match as he was in the first.
9. Cameron Smith
It was between him and Danny Buderus. To be honest though, this was an easy choice. It shows what an incredible player Smith really is.
10. Petero Civoniceva
One of the most capped forwards in Australian Rugby League history. He had a great career!
11. Gorden Tallis
He was the heart and soul of the Broncos and Queensland Rugby League for a long time.
12. Nathan Hindmarsh
A work horse and a player that you know is going to give 100% in every single game he plays. Started off the decade as a hard running back rower, ended it as a tackling machine.
13. Brad Fittler
Led the Roosters to a premiership as well as a number of Grand Final appearances. Captained Australia to a win in the 2000 World Cup and won numerous State Of Origin titles.
Langer. While ever Langer was available, Johns was playing hooker.
Personally I would have Fitzgibbon or Menzies over Tallis.
On Langer vs Johns, you’re just flat out wrong.
Would take SBW over Hindmarsh
Jarryd Hayne would have to be in there instead of falou??
And would of had Ben Kennedy instead of Hindmarsh
