After being bundled out of the Finals series in what turned out to be a pretty embarrassing year for the club, the Newcastle Knights have found themselves in more hot water.
The Knights have been fined $5,000 for strapping on Richie Fa’aoso’s arm that caused abrasions to Bulldogs players in last weeks game at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium.
When watching the game I noticed a lot of taping on most of the Knights players and it seems there is a trend in the game for players to use grip pads on their forearms to assist in holding the ball in one hand, making it easier to offload.
This hasn’t been an issue in the past but it seems to have come to a head in this game and the NRL is looking to stamp it out.
It is very rare that a injuries occur on the field due to a players playing gear.
I wonder how the NRL will police such a thing, whether grip pads will be completely outlawed or if players will not be allowed strapping past their wrist in the future.
What ever the case, the NRL has been proactive and warned all clubs against these tactics.
