Ireland has claimed one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history, downing Samoa 34-16, claiming the top place in the group and booking a playoff with the winner of Group B for the right to play Australia in the World Cup Semi Finals.
Ireland were outstanding and improved on their impressive performance against Tonga last week.
Samoa meanwhile were terrible, they looked like fitness was a problem, they made some terrible mistakes and they just let Ireland pick them aapart with smart play and skill.
In watching Irelands win, you couldn’t help but wish there was some way they could face off with England at some point in this World Cup. Unfortunantly that can’t happen unless both teams made the final, but I have to say I think Ireland would beat England with the form both sides are in.
The Irish side worked well around the ruck, got good go forward and worked hard for the full 80 minutes.
The Samoan loss means their World Cup run is effectivly over, they finish bottom of their group and now have just one game left which is just a ranking game and has no baring on the rest of this World Cup.
Going into this World Cup, you were hard pressed to find anyone that game Ireland a change of winning a game. They had two very strong opponents in their Group and two sides that were both looking further ahead in the competition.
Now Ireland is just one more win away from booking a place in the World Cup Semi Finals!
