Luke Lewis has revealed that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier this month. Lewis had neck surgery to remove his cancerous thyroid and is currently undergoing further treatment in an effort to recover.
Lewis’ ordeal is a little reminiscent of Adam Ritson’s many years ago. A scan on an injury he picked up during a match showed up the thyroid abnormality and while Lewis was said to be out with a neck injury that needed surgery, you got the sense there was a bit more to it.
The recovery from surgery will mean that Lewis will be unable to play one last game for the Penrith Panthers before he joins the Cronulla Sharks next season.
Lets hope that Lewis gets the all clear very soon and that the cancer doesnt come back.
Unfortunately the news come about as Channel 10 pumped up “News that will rock the NRL”. Unfortunately for Channel 10, Erin Molan of Channel 9 become the first person to really break the news. For some crazy reason, people are getting upset at her for doing her job, as though journalists all of a sudden are supposed to share stories and keep quiet if someone else knows something already.
Bloody ridiculous!
I think it is a bit crass of Channel 10 to be trying to carry Lewis’ cancer scare the way they did to be honest. Hopefully they learn from their mistake.
