The Catalan Dragons have asked Super League to consider playing Magic Weekend in France beyond the 2021 according to the BBC.
The move would see a complete round of Super League games played in France for the first time ever, and see Super Leagues Magic Round move outside of Great Britain for the first time as well.
An event like this would be a huge shot in the arm or the game in France. The French have always been ambitious when it comes to expanding the game and putting on big Rugby League events.
It was the French Rugby League that pushed for the first ever Rugby League World Cup to be played in 1954, hosting the tournament at a time when other leading nations were not sold on the idea that a World Cup would work.
In 2019 the Catalan Dragons took a game to Spain, playing at Nou Camp, home of the Spanish La Liga side FC Barcelona. The game attracted 31,555 as the Catalan Dragons defeated Wigan.
More moved like this are needed for Rugby League to grow, and French Rugby League in particular deserves all the support it can get.
Playing a Magic Weekend in France would be fantastic for the game. Lets hope Super League jumps at the chance and that it propel the nations to its next goal, hosting the Rugby League World Cup once again.
