Update Mar 07 2013: New Zealand NRL Television Rights Announced
Update Mar 08 2013: You can watch NRL games from overseas by clicking this link!
The NRL has announced that they have signed off on an international broadcasting deal that will ensure the competition gets world wide exposure over the next five seasons.
In the past restrictive online rights deals have made it difficult to provide game footage online to people living overseas. That all seems to have been cleared up now with some fairly innovative delivery methods in place that include UStream and YouTube.
The key elements of the new international broadcasting deal are:
Guaranteed television coverage in key markets including the UK, USA, Asia, and Pacific;
Access to all games in HD either through television or online platforms, as well as access to a 30- minute weekly highlights show;
A free digital NRL Channel for international fans featuring match vision and a mobile NRL app;
All NRL and State of Origin matches available on a live or near-live basis via television or online, mobile applications, smart TVs or other media platforms;
International fans in regions where there is no TV or IPTV rights deals in place will be able to access matches for free on a leading web destination, such as YouTube or USTREAM.
I will post more details as they become available closer to season kickoff but so far it looks like NRL fans overseas will have a great number of ways they can watch games.
