The South Sydney Rabbitohs are leading the way in Rugby League in terms of membership numbers after breaking through the 27,000 members mark.
The milestone comes just a few months after the club broke through the 25,000 members barrier.
It was not all that long ago that clubs discouraged people from becoming members of football clubs. Why? Because an influx of new members was seen as a threat to football club board members when club elections rolled around.
The NRL made it a priority a few years ago for clubs to lift their membership numbers. Memberships were seen as an area the game the game needed to look to for a new source of revenue.
Now we see NRL clubs pushing for new members every day. It is a great change and a great move for Rugby League.
Congratulations to the South Sydney Rabbitohs. I wonder if they can hit 30,000 members by seasons end???
