Daly Cherry-Evans looks like has has secured the bench utility spot in Australia’s World Cup team with Robbie Farah dropped from the squad named to take on the United States this weekend.
While Australia named a 20 man squad, Farah was still unable to find a place in the side. Cherry-Evans form has been sensational in the World Cup. Had he been left out of the team in favour of Farah it would have caused outrage among fans.
The 20 man squad is:
Cameron Smith (c), Paul Gallen (vc), Greg Bird, Darius Boyd, Daly Cherry-Evans, Boyd Cordner, Cooper Cronk, Andrew Fifita, Jarryd Hayne, Greg Inglis, Brett Morris, Nate Myles, Josh Papalii, Corey Parker, Matthew Scott, Billy Slater, James Tamou, Brent Tate, Sam Thaiday, Johnathan Thurston.
I tend to think naming such a large squad, not listed by lineup, against an opponent like the United States is absolutely ridiculous. Would it kill Tim Sheens to allow everyone to know who is likely to play in this game by position?
We will all find out on the weekend when they run out, and the United States aren’t likely to beat them even if they emailed them their game plan. So just named the stinking line up!
