The Cronulla Sharks have withdrawn their offer to halfback Brett Kimmorley in a week when the Shraks re-signed his halves partner Adam Dykes.
The Sharks did have an offer on the table for Kimmorley but after recently upgrading the contracts of a number of players the club has seemingly shown the fomer Test halfback the door for next season.
Kimmorley has been in his best form for a number of years in 2007 and finally looked to have settled somewhere since leaving the Melbourne Storm to head to the ill fated Northern Eagles a number of seasons ago.
Under new coach Ricky Stuart the Sharks are slowly improving and have been very impressive in some of their games this season. Some have even nominated them as a Premiership dark horse.
The club has formed a brilliant back row led by Greg Bird and Paul Gallen who are in career best form. They are also getting good service out of a number of their youngers players and are really on the up at the moment.
Its unlikely the Sharks would be willing to let Kimmorley leave at season end if they didn’t already have a replacement ready and waiting in the wings to take over the halfback role.
As for Kimmorley, outside of a shock move to somewhere like Brisbane for less money than he is worth to other clubs, I’d expect him to end up in the Rugby Super League in 2008.
With Warrington already filling their halfback spot the likes of Wigan and Hull would have to be favorites for his signature.
Don’t rule out St Helens though. It’s been rumoured that Sean Long has been offered a very reduced contract to stay at the club and he is not happy with the offer at all.
