Daily Telegraph journalist Phil Rothfield has claimed that the Sydney Roosters have already wrapped up the signature of young Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco in his Sunday Telegraph article “Whats The Buzz”. Rothfield claims that the Roosters will announce the signing “very soon”.
If this is true it is a terrible blow to the Wests Tigers. Tedesco has been brilliant so far this season for the Wests Tigers after missing most of 2013 through injury.
Tedesco played really well for Italy at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. A lot has been made of the friendship he struck up in the Italian camp with fellow fullback Anthony Minichiello with many suggesting that Minichiello was in his ear the whole time about moving to the Bondi based club.
Tedesco has really hit the ground running this year for the Tigers. he has struck up a great combination with follow youngster Luke Brooks.
With all of the issues off the field the Wests Tigers are facing, their form on the field of their younger players has been a real shining light for the clubs supporters.
If the Wests Tigers lose Tedesco, they won’t have anyone to blame but themselves. As always we will see the club cry poor, but really what it would come down to is the club not coming to the party and simply paying Tedesco enough money for him to stay.
When you look through the Wests Tigers lineup, there are very few big name players in their side that would be soaking up large chunks of salary cap space. If the Roosters have managed to find the salary cap space the Wests Tigers could not find….good luck to them.
I hope that James Tedesco stays at the Wests Tigers. I think it is always a good thing when any club develops a talented player and can hold onto them through their entire career.
If he does leave I think we would see Wests Tigers fans getting very angry of their own club.
Time will tell on this one…
