Round 6 saw Rangi Chase return for Salford, Leeds putting 54 points against London on the score-board and one of the lowest scoring games I’ve ever seen.
Warrington Wolves vs Wigan Warriors
The Thursday night game. Low scoring and quite scruffy is how I’d describe this one, nevertheless a good game of Rugby League. Warrington just couldn’t break Wigan’s defence and their only try came from an interception from a Bowen pass. Warrington’s attack needs to sharpen up, but a positive is that Russell looked very good in the 25 minutes he played and Warrington were much stronger when he entered the field. Wigan’s defence looked the best it has all season. It ended 12-4 in front of a crowd of 11,550. Good stuff.
Leeds Rhinos vs London Broncos
Not the 100 pointer people were expecting, which is a positive London can take away, but the score-board wasn’t pretty. Leeds look very strong on the wings, with Hall grabbing 3 and Bishop scoring 2 in this game. London Broncos dedicated account, @backthebroncos (go give them a follow), described Londons’ performance as ‘still playing the exactly the same brand of rugby league football.’ They put that London are ‘still dropping the ball’ and ‘still not completing their sets’ and their defence is awful. He does respect that the players give 100% in every game and are passionate about the club. Do London Broncos need a change in coaching staff? The game ended 54-6 to Leeds, which see’s Leeds at the top of the Super League table. Biggest attended game of the round this one, with a crowd of 12,870. Brilliant.
Catalans Dragons vs Huddersfield Giants
The result was a huge surprise for me, but not the biggest of the round, which says something positive about this round. Catalans Dragons managed to grab their first 2014 Super League win against the Giants, with a scoreline of 30-14. Catalan looked much more improved and now hopefully will get back on track of their usual, strong performances. Huddersfield need to forget about the scoreline and move onto their next game vs Warrington now. The crowd here was 6,600. Eh.
Hull FC vs Widnes Vikings
One of the lowest scoring games in the history of the Super League. It comes level with the second lowest games, to be exact, which was back in 2007 and the other in 2010 which both saw the games end with 7 points. Not much to say about this one. Hull FC were held pointless for the first time this season. Obviously both sides need to concentrate on attacking and breaking through the line. Good attendance though, with 10,286 watching this one at the KC Stadium. Cracking stuff. (Get it, as in cracking the li…forget it).
Wakefield Wildcats vs St Helens
St Helens proved that they can still score points without their main man, Luke Walsh, but Wakefield should did put up a good fight. Wakefield were leading 10-4 at half time, but Saints came out on top with a 24-16 win. St Helens have a big challenge in front of them, facing Leeds Rhinos in round 7 which will definitely let us see just how good the side is without Walsh making the calls. The crowd was 5,037 at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium. The crowd could do with growing here, RAPIDly….
Salford Red Devils vs Castleford Tigers
The surprise of the round. Rangi Chase returned to the side which seemed to boost the sides attacking skills and confidence. Salford managed to end Castleford’s 100% winning streak this year, defeating them 23-16 in front of a crowd of 5,823. I can’t see this being a major blow for the Tigers though, who will look to bounce back.
Hull KR vs Bradford Bulls
Hull KR managed to keep the Bulls to 0 on the score-board and scored 16 point themselves, with tries coming from Caro, ex-Bulldog Keating and Larroyer. This leaves Bulls remaining at the bottom of the Super League table, 2 points behind second-last place London Broncos. 7,008 at the KC Lightstream Stadium for this fixture.
