Round 7 saw Saints keep their 100% winning record this season, London keep their 100% losing record so far this season and Wigan snatching a win in the dying seconds of their fixture with the Catalan Dragons.
London Broncos vs Castleford Tigers
Tigers hit back after their round 6 loss against Salford, scoring 9 tries against the London Broncos, leaving a pretty embarrassing score line in front of the Sky cameras. The first half was the better half for London, but safe to say there are lots of improvements needed by the side in order to stay up in the Super League this season. London did manage to end on a high though, with McMeeken going over the line. Full time score was 54-6 to the Tigers. The attendance was very poor, but for a Thursday night game all the way in London, you’re not going to get much higher. Hats off to the Tigers fans who travelled though, who would have enjoyed the game. 1,036 the official attendance.
Wigan Warriors vs Catalan Dragons
Wigan managed to get the win in the dying seconds of this game, after a Matty Bowen 70m sprint to score under the sticks. The Catalan Dragons have had a slow start to the season, after just 1 win which came last week against the Huddersfield Giants, but they looked sharp in this game. Wigan Warriors still aren’t playing like they did last year, but it’s still too early in the season to decide if they can do the double again this year. Full time score was 22-16 in front of a crowd of 11,216.
Hull FC vs Salford Red Devils
Hull FC looked much improved after last week’s defeat against Widnes. They managed to defeat the Devils and score 5 tries, 5 more than they did last week. The Devils will be looking to improve massively, especially as they will be returning to the KC stadium this Thursday for the Challenge Cup, even more so after the news that Salford owner, Marwan Koukash is offering Salford fans free travel to the game. Full time score was 30-8, with a crowd of 9,821
St Helens vs Leeds Rhinos
A try from Makinson saw St Helens secure the win in the last 2 minutes of the game. Danny McGuire scored the first try of the game for Leeds, and Walker the first for St Helens, leaving the score 6-6 at half-time. The second half saw Sinfield convert 2 penalties and Makinson with a beautiful finish in the corner which any winger would be proud of, leaving the score 10-10. With 3 minutes left, a piece of magic from Hohaia and Lomax saw Makinson score again in the corner and winning Saints the game. 14-10 to Saints the full time score, in front of 13,788 people.
Widnes Vikings vs Bradford Bulls
It’s not all doom and gloom for the Bradford Bulls, after they put up a good battle against the Vikings but still they couldn’t manage to grab the win. Two tries from Widnes stand-off Brown and a try from Jack Owens gave the Vikings a 16-6 half-time lead. The Bulls hit back in the second half, with Kear and Kearney scoring, but a try from Ah Van secured Widnes the win. Widnes’ impressive 2014 season continues, which sees them fourth in the Super League table. 22-18 the full-time score, with a crowd of 5,581.
Hull KR vs Wakefield Wildcats
Hull KR won their first back-to-back games for the first time since July 2013, with what seemed an easy win over the Wildcats. Tries from Costigan, Caro, Hodgson, Welham and Keating saw Hull KR defeat the Wakefield Wildcats 44-6. Jarrod Sammut converted Godinet’s late try for Wakefield to deny the hosts an almost-perfect score line. 6,983 the crowd here.
Huddersfield Giants vs Warrington Wolves
Warrington Wolves scored 29-unanswered second half points to deny Huddersfield their first win at home of the 2014 First Utility Super League Season. Eorl Crabtree would have wanted to see his side win this game on his 350th appearance but this wasn’t the case. The Giants led 14-4 at half-time but tries from Myler, Westwood, Russell, Ormsby and Monaghan saw Warrington grab their fourth win of the season. 33-14 to Warrington the full-time score, in front of a crowd of 7,068.
