Iestyn Harris started off his reign as Red Devils head coach with an emphatic 38-24 win over strugglers Bradford Bulls but has warned.. there is more to come.
Salford ran in seven tries to Bradford’s four and, having briefly been behind midway through the first half, but looked to have enough in the pack to ensure Salford’s fourth win in 8 Super League games.
Harris, who took the reins from Brian Noble last week, had only four training sessions with his new squad prior to the game at the Provident Stadium.
Despite acknowledging his delight at his victory, Harris was quick to warn against a quick fix throughout the team, claiming there is plenty of work to do.
“There’s a lot of areas we need to improve in as we go on but there were some half decent signs and we need to make sure we work on them to advance forward’
After the game we spoke to a few fans who made the trip to West Yorkshire;
Frank Birchall told us;
“Our defence needs tightening, 4 tries conceded against a club sitting at the foot of the Super League table, we conceded the ball twice immediately after the Bradford kick off, directly after we had scored the try”
Andy Lancashire responded;
“Defence wins games, and this needs to be our number one priority, we concede to easily close to our own try line”
So many fans focusing on our defence, Salford have the fifth worst defence in the whole of Super League with London, Catalan, Bradford and Wakefield conceding more points than the Red Devils.
If Salford want to stand any chance of finishing in the top 8, the defence needs to tighten and perform as a unit, is a team conceding 200 points in 8 games worthy of a chance to finish in the top 8? The next few games will be the answer.
Salford hosts Huddersfield giants on Good Friday at AJ Bell Stadium, 18;00PM kick off then making the trip the Headingly to face Leeds Rhinos on Monday, 3PM kick off.
