After going broke in the off season (again) and then finding a new buyer for the club, you could have been forgiven for thinking things were looking up for the Salford Red Devils this year.
You’d have been totally wrong.
The Salford Red Devils have lost their first three games of the 2025 Super League season. They have conceded 156 points over the course of those three games, and scored just 6 points of their own. Its fair to say, it’s about the worst start you could hope for to start a season.
This of course is horrible for the Super League competition. Having a club so inept in the top flight is disastrous for the game in England. It affects the gate-takings, sponsorship and TV viewing figures for the entire competition.
Of course, this is pretty much par for the course for the British game. With the sport living way, way beyond its means, and struggling to get any attention out of small towns in northern England, the cycle of clubs going bust, getting a new owner, treading water and then going bust again is very familiar to English Rugby League supporters.
