The first round of the 2025 NRL season is now in the books and one of the big things that stood out over the round were how many teams looked absolutely dreadful!
Some games, like the Raiders beating the Warriors pretty well, were just a good performance against a team off their game a little and with the wrong personnel.
However, the Sydney Roosters 50-14 loss to the Broncos, the Wests Tigers 10-8 loss to the Knights where they missed an absurd 51 tackles, the North Queensland Cowboys 42-12 loss to the Sea Eagles, and then the atrocious Parramatta Eels 56-18 loss to the Storm were all just disgusting performances that must make their fans sick!
The Pathetic Parramatta Eels
The Parramatta Eels went into the sheds at halftime down 46-6 to the Storm. It was the most inept, disgusting performance by any club I have ever seen in round one in my life.
Forget what they did in the second half, this team trained for 8 months for this game, and gave up 46 points in their first 40 minutes of the season. That is inexcusable.
The North Queensland Cowboys Suck
I had similar thoughts about the North Queensland Cowboys, who were down 24-0 at halftime to the Sea Eagles, in a scoreline that flattered them! The Sea Eagles could have very easily gone into halftime up a couple of more tries if not for the bounce of the ball going against them.
Surely Todd Payten is on the clock right now. He’s had more than enough time to shape this team into what he wants, and they come up with this terrible performance to start the season.
The Wests Tigers Are A Joke
Then we had the Wests Tigers who, after an off-season where they had some good buys and talked up their training regime, missed 51 tackles! Keep in mind, the Tigers started this game well against a Knights side that just had nothing, and both teams scrambled their way to the 80th minute. However the 51 missed tackles by the Tigers just stood out in this game. How to do you miss 51 tackles in your first game against a terrible side like the Knights!
The Newcastle Knights Are A Pub Team
The Knights meanwhile are just not a seriously football club. Their fans deserve so much better. You look at their lineup and wonder whose grand plan THIS team was. Coach Adam O’Brien has had plenty of time to build this team. He’s show no reason to suggest he is a first grade coach.
Its Horrible For Supporters
I know what it’s like to support a club that plays its first game of the season and they are terrible. It’s happened a number of times to my Penrith Panthers over the course of my lifetime.
You look forward to the new year, you hope for improvements from the previous season, you buy into what your club is trying to do, and then they drop a dump in round one.
It’s terrible for a supporter. What do you have to look forward to now? The coach getting sacked? Maybe trying to recruit decent players from other clubs for 2026?
So I really feel sorry for supporters of these clubs right now. It’s not a good feeling at all.
