The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the Parramatta Eels are once again looking to sign Israel Folau, and that there is a slight possibility that Folau may switch back to Rugby League before the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup.
The Eels had Folau wrapped up early last year but the NRL dragged its heels and allowed the ARU to swoop in and sign him up. Now that the NRL has brought in a central contract system that will see them top up the salary of star players, this would no longer be an issue.
There has been rumblings for a while that Folau wants to come back to Rugby League. I think if he got the right deal he would leave before the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup. Australia are no chance of winning the Rugby Union World Cup, and instead of being in a losing side surrounded by a bunch of bludger Rugby Union players he could be playing in the NRL, earning more money, and playing for Queensland and Australia and winning everything in sight.
With Folau in their side the Eels would have an unbelievable backline.
With Jarryd Hayne, Semi Radradra and William Hopoate, the Eels have three of the most dangerous outside backs in the game. Throw in Israel Folau and the Eels would be a nightmare for opposition teams to try and shut down.
Lets hope that the Eels put together a good deal at their end. Then it is really up to the NRL to top that deal up and make Folau an offer he can’t refuse. If he wants to come back and play Rugby League, make it almost impossible for him to stay in Rugby Union.
