News Limited is reporting that the Parramatta Eels are set to offer Daly Cherry-Evans a 4 year $4 million deal.
The deal would make Cherry-Evans one of the highest paid players in the NRL.
I’ve always felt that the Brisbane Broncos were going to offer Cherry-Evans more money than he could possibly refuse. That still might happen, it just means they will need to clear a little more cap space to make it happen.
For a young premiership winning halfback who is the next in line for Queensland and Australia, and a player that is brilliant in terms of how he handles media commitments, I think Cherry-Evans is well worth the money the Eels are said to be offering him.
If he went to the Eels he would have to contend with Peter Sterlings looming shadow, but he would handle that far better than other halfbacks before him have.
What is for certain is that if they Sea Eagles want to hold onto Cherry-Evans they are going to have to make him the highest paid player in the clubs history. Whether they are willing to do that is anyone’s guess.
