Seven News is reporting that Canterbury Bulldogs coach Des Hasler has no interest in signing Manly Sea Eagles fullback Brett Stewart.
Stewart is one of a number of Manly players who have asked for an early release from their contract due to unrest at the club.
The Bulldogs have been looking for a top class fullback ever since Ben Barba asked the club for a release towards the end of last season.
Having already coached Stewart during his time as Manly coach, Hasler no doubt would love to reunite with the try scoring wizard in an effort to add more attacking power to the Bulldogs back line. However it seems he will not entertain signing Stewart as long as he is under contract at the Sea Eagles.
When you consider the issues Hasler has getting out of his contract with the Sea Eagles a few years ago, that is completely understandable.
Stewart could do a lot worse than signing with the Bulldogs. I believe the Bulldogs are set for a really strong showing in the NRL finals this year. Adding Stewart to the Bulldogs back line next season could be what tips the Bulldogs over the top and makes them clear cut premiership favourites for the title.
