The Manly Sea Eagles have made an official press release via the clubs web site in an effort to smother news that a number of players want an early release from their contracts.
The official press release reads:
The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles board has thrown its support behind the Head Coach and the Club’s position around recent player retention.
Sea Eagles Head Coach Geoff Toovey addressed the board at their monthly meeting this evening where his position on players honouring their NRL contracts with the Club was fully supported.
Negotiations are ongoing with a number of players that will hopefully see them remain at the Club, but these remain confidential until the Club is in a position to make an official announcement at the appropriate time.
Finally, the board would like to acknowledge their regret at not being able to retain Glenn Stewart but we look forward to seeing him back on the field and farewelling him in the best possible way at the end of the 2014 NRL season.
It is a bit of a nothing press release really. I think Sea Eagles supporters would rather the club didn’t say anything until they knew who was staying and who was going.
There is so much speculation right now regarding how many players want to leave the Sea Eagles, I’d be shocked if the club didn’t crack and allow some of them to leave.
For now the club is standing firm though. Lets see how long that lasts…
