The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Benji Marshall and the Auckland Blues will agree to part ways and that Marshall has instructed his manager to find him an NRL team to play for as early as this season.
Marshall has had an unhappy time since switching to Rugby Union this year and its pretty clear the Auckland Blue didn’t have too much of an intention to give him the game time he needed to adapt to the code.
While Marshall has said in the past he would not play for any club other than the Wests Tigers the situation has now changed. There are a few teams in the NRL that would no doubt be willing to take a punt on Marshall at the right price.
This news all comes just a couple of weeks after the Salford Red Devils said they would make a massive offer for Marshall to return to Rugby League. That amounted to nothing though.
I’d love to see Benji Marshall back in the NRL. With the right club I do believe he could make a big impact. Now the waiting game begins. Where he ends up is anyone’s guess!
