The Gold Coast Titans were taught a very harsh lesson during the 2009 NRL Final series. A very good regular season means nothing and you can whinge all you like, all that matters is the scoreboard at the final siren.
The Parramatta Eels completely dominated the Titans for the full 80 minutes. Their forwards were too destructive and their backs caused havoc against a Titans side that just don’t have an extra gear.
The loss of Daniel Mortimer wasn’t enough to slow the Eels as Fui Fui Moi Moi was devastating and Jarryd Hayne kept up his amazing run of form.
The Eels defense was fantastic in this game and while everyone is focusing on their attack right now, it will be their defense that gets them through if they can win the Grand Final.
I was a bit disappointed by the crowd. At one point in the last few days I heard an announcement that only 3,000 seats were available for the clash….how they worked that out is beyond me!
After pissing and moaning for two weeks, the Titans had very little in the Finals.
Allowing the Brisbane Broncos to put 40 points on them, at home, whinging about referee’s, whinging about a lack of respect by the media and then being dominated by Parramatta, the Titans should take some big lessons on board for the next time they make the finals.
The Parramatta win sets up an amazing clash next Friday night where the Canterbury Bulldogs will host the Eels at the Olympic Stadium at Homebush in a game that should draw in excess of 50,000.
I can’t wait!
