You can’t say enough about the way Sam Burgess has carried himself during his time playing in the NRL.
On top of being one of the best forwards in the game, Burgess has been great with the media and fans. The big Englishman has really gone a long way to opening the door for other English players to join the NRL. He has been a credit to himself, his family and the South Sydney Rabbitohs football club.
Then there is George Burgess…
I like the way George Burgess plays. He throws himself at the opposition and dares them to stand in his way. The improvement he has made over the last 12 months had been out of sight. He is now a key forward in the South Sydney lineup and will no doubt play for England in the World Cup at the end of the year.
When George Burgess was charged with willful damage to property in Cairns, it was really disappointing. It was rumoured that Sam Burgess gave him a blast for it. Now there are nude pictures of George Burgess doing the rounds on social media, and I can’t help but think this is all really embarrassing for Sam who worked so hard to make a good name for himself in Australia.
George Burgess is only 21 and he hasn’t had the same introduction to the NRL that his brother Sam did. When same came over he was already a big name player. He knew when he came to Australia that there were certain things expected of him.
George came over as a young bloke who had a famous footballer for a brother. He played lower level football fairly anonymously. He is only just starting to taste fame for the first time himself. He needs to learn really quickly that anything he does can be scrutinized and dissected by fans and the media.
Over the last few weeks George has had some pretty harsh lessons. In a way I feel sorry for him. Hopefully it all makes him wake and and realize that he needs to be careful about what he does from now on.
