Andrew Proszenko has an interesting article in the Sydney Morning Herald today that suggests that South Sydney may be willing to give halfback Adam Reynolds an early release from his contract after signing QLD Cup player Cody Walker.
It would be a huge call on South Sydney’s behalf but it is clear the club is stockpiling halfbacks, something you wouldn’t think they would be doing if they were completely convinced that Reynolds was the player to lead them to a Premiership.
Reynolds form has been a little frustrating over the last year and a half. I commented earlier this year that his game has taken a bit of a step backwards from where he was last year. While he showed a lot of promise in his first season his game hasn’t really kicked on the way you would have hoped for.
If South Sydney were to give Reynolds an early release though, I think he would find himself in big demand at other clubs. He is still only a young player and I’m sure plenty of teams would be willing to take the gamble that a change of scenery would be the kick along his career needed.
Still, it would be a very big call by South Sydney at this stage. I’d be shocked if they released him from his contract early to join another club.
