The National Rugby League website is reporting that the Manly Sea Eagles have offered lock Jake Trbojevic fullback Tom Trbojevic a combined deal with $12.5 million over 6 years.
The deal would see both bother stay at the club they make their first grade debuts with and it is a deal expected to be signed off on by the brothers by the end of the week.
While there is not doubting the talent of both brothers, the injury prone Tom Trbojevic must feel daily fortunate to be offered such a massive amount of money by the club. The deal will keep both brothers off the open market, with the Canterbury Bulldogs one club said to be lining up a huge deal to lure both players to their club.
This is obviously a massive deal and the Sea Eagles are comfortable to commit to both players long term. It was a similar long term commitment made to Daly Cherry-Evans that saw the talented halfback turn him back on a signed agreement with the Gold Coast Titans to remain on Sydney’s northern beaches a number of years ago.
It is interesting to see these longer term deals being offered to certain players in the game. I think it is the right move in some circumstances.
With blue chip players in high demand it is always a good thing for a club to lock in players on their roster that they feel could become cornerstones of the club long term.
There is not doubt that the Trbojevic brothers fit that category nicely.
