Over the years I have had many people tell me that I should get involved in the running of Rugby League in some capacity. That I have some good idea’s, that I tend to think outside the box, and that I am not afraid to suggest things even if they are not the most popular ideas.
I’m happy to tell my readers that I have now been given an opportunity to do just that!
I have been offered, and decided to accept, a consultancy role for a Rugby League organisation within Great Britain.
At this stage I am unable to elaborate on the organisation I will be working for, that is above even my new pay scale, but you are likely to see a number of press releases within the coming weeks that will cover changes that are being made and a restructuring of current management set ups that will be implemented over the coming months.
I can tell you that I am not the only person that will be taking up this role and that I am not the only Australian that will be doing this job. This job will require me to move to Great Britain on a full time bases and I expect to be setting foot in Great Britain within the next two weeks.
At first the role will require a behind the scenes review of the organisation in question. The idea being that a strategic plan is formed from that review and then the group I will be apart of will be announced in a more official capacity from that point on.
It is an exciting opportunity for me and one that I am really looking forward to!
To be able to have a hands on role that will really make a difference is something I am looking forward to. I know some of the people I will be working with, they are very experienced and well respected people within the sport, and I’m quite humbled that the organisation in question approached me to take on what is a very important job.
One thing I want to make sure I do when I arrive is get as many different opinions as possible about what needs to change for Rugby League to improve in Great Britain. Obviously I have a lot of idea’s of my own but I think it is important that I consult with people at every level of the game, from the grass roots, right up to the full professional level, and take all of those opinions on board before making any recommendation.
Once an official announcement is made I will obviously try as best as I can to keep readers informed of what is being talked about behind the scenes and what changes are being made, but there will be some things I have to hold back on and I have been briefed about those things as part of the contract I will sign.
While I will be able to discuss certain matters, there are some things I will not be able to talk about. Hopefully you all understand that. I will try to do my best to keep everyone as informed as I can though.
There are some very exciting things about to get under way and I can’t wait to be a part of a wave of change that will hopefully set the game in Great Britain on the right track again.
It truly is an honour to have this opportunity afforded to me. I am encouraged that the organisation that has employed be has decided themselves to look far and wide for a range of different people to do this job. I think good things will come of this.
So, I arrive in Great Britain on the 12th of April and at this stage I will probably be based out of Leeds for 2012 anyway. There will be a lot of travel involved and luckily all of my travel expenses will be paid for!
So look out Great Britain because The Glorious League Freak is heading your way!
Don’t say I didn’t warn you…..
