Nathan Merritt has taken his omission really well by claiming that the reason he was not selected in the side was due to racism.
Merritt appeared in Channel 9 News in Sydney this week and had this to say:
“I’m not too sure what it is, maybe it’s a Souths thing or it’s a racial thing,”
“They don’t like indigenous players coming through the representative ranks.”
Not it was only a matter of time until it happened, but self appointed Aboriginal spokesman Anthony Mundine just had to add his two cents.
“There’s been an under-belly of racism within rugby league for a long time and if this does not expose it again then I don’t know what does,”
What a couple of idiots…
The City side Merritt did not get selected for has players of Lebanese, Fijian, Italian and Asian backgrounds alone in the side.
The country side meanwhile has two Aboriginal players selected in the team.
Thats just these two representative teams. Thats not looking at the numerous Aboriginal, Maori and Pacific Islanders at EVERY NRL club!
Hopefully this type of stupidity costs Merritt any chance of every playing rep football. We dont need idiots being rewarded in this game.
