The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Newcastle Knights owner Nathan Tinkler is being investigated by the NRL Integrity Unit for allegedly betting on NRL fixtures.
The NRL has very strict rules that prohibit players and officials from betting on Rugby League.
The news comes on the back of a report on the ABC’s Four Corners program that outlines the rise and fall of the Tinkler empire.
While many people saw Nathan Tinkler as an end to all of the Newcastle Knights problems things haven’t gone so smoothly.
While Tinkler has been dealing with his own issues the Knights haven exactly been setting the world on fire. With the most expensive coach in the game in Wayne Bennett, the Knights recruitment policy has been questionable a best.
On the field the Knights have been solid, but unspectacular. While they have probably overachieved a little this season they are still not seen as being anywhere near a premiership threat.
The last thing the Knights need is for their owner to be causing them problems.
