Wakefield fullback Richie Mathers took commitment to the next level last weekend when he ruptured a testicle against against Wigan and played on despite the pain.
It was a knee to his right testicle that did the damage…and yes, it feels kinda strange to know exactly which testicle it was. Like we need any more detail to this story!
The strange thing is that Mathers has no idea his right nut was in any bother until the next day!
Mathers told BBC Radio Leeds: “I can’t thank the club doctor enough. My main concern was my foot, but as soon as I asked him to examine my testicle, he told me priorities had changed”.
I don’t know about you but I think its pretty funny that he was getting his foot seen to and then said to the team doctor “Hey Doc, check out my right ball, it looks like Stevo’s head!”.
After being rushed to hospital Mathers was told he may possibly need his right ball removed, which would leave him with just one ball and probably off balance for the rest of his life.
After surgery Mathers woke up and luckily for him, he still had both of his balls.
I think the moral of this story is pretty simple. If you cop a blow to your nuts, crumble to the ground, cradle them. Make sure they are still intact and if anything seems a little off, go and show them to as many people as possible, because people love nothing more than looking at your nuts.
