The Newcastle Knights have announced that assistant coach Rick Stone will take the reigns once again after signing him to a two year deal to coach the club starting next season.
Stone was previously the Knights head coach but reverted back to an assistant coaching role when the club signed Wayne Bennett.
I think this was the right move for the Knights to make. Stone is well regarded at the club and was completely selfless in the way he was willing to stand down from his previous coaching job when Bennett arrived. He did so without any fuss or complaints, so it seems only fair he gets first crack at the job now Bennett is moving on.
The only question left now is, should Stone take over the Knights before the season is finished?
The Knights haven’t been going all that well under Wayne Bennett in 2014 and there is a feeling that the club could use a change of coach sooner rather than later.
