The New Zealand Warriors have re-signed halfback Shaun Johnson through to the end of the 2017 season. It is great news for the club heading into the start of a new season.
I’m a big fan of Shaun Johnson. His re-signing with the Warriors is good news for Rugby League. He gives the Warriors a star player they can look to build the club around over the long term.
Johnson had been linked with a moved to the Penrith Panthers last season where he would have linked up with former coach Ivan Cleary. With the way contracts have been eroded by NRL clubs and players in recent years you probably still wouldn’t bet against that move. However, the signing of this contract extension at the very least signals Johnson’s intent to remain at the Warriors for a while, so any talk that he will be leaving in the short term can be put to bed.
