The Sydney Roosters have re-signed Sonny Bill Williams through to the end of the 2014 season according to the Daily Telegraph.
Williams made a smooth return to the game and has managed to avoid the injury problems that have plagued his career in the past. Over the last few weeks in particular Williams has looked a lot more comfortable so its good to see he will be part of the Roosters lineup again next season.
Unless the Roosters can come up with a huge deal in 2015, I think its fair to suggest that Williams will likely switch back to Rugby Union and target a place in the Rugby Union World Cup that will be held in that year.
I believe that as a game Rugby League needs to make sure it retains the best players in the world. Sonny Bill Williams is one of those players. Having locked him down for two season in a row, its up to our sports to make him an offer he can not refuse in 2015.
Now that Williams had re-signed with the Roosters it seems likely the New Zealand Kiwi’s will target him for a place in the World Cup squad at years end. Whether he decides to take part in the World Cup or do boxing in the off season is anyone’s guess.
What ever happens, its good to see Sonny Bill Williams staying on. He belongs in Rugby League, that much has been made clear with his form over the course of this season.
