The Penrith Panthers have released a statement on their official web site claiming they have concluded their investigation into allegations that a female supporter of the club attacked Sam Burgess with a flag last Friday night.
The Statement reads:
Panthers Rugby League Club has today finalised its investigation into the post-match incident involving a Penrith fan and South Sydney player Sam Burgess after Friday night’s game at Sportingbet Stadium.
Club officials have spoken with the fan in question and a statement has been lodged with the NRL Integrity Unit. Please note – the fan came forward to the club on Saturday morning to offer an explanation into the matter.
The club has also spoken to several people who may have witnessed the alleged altercation, and has reviewed camera footage from the night.
The fan has unreservedly apologised for causing any harm to the NRL and the Panthers. They have also offered an apology to Sam and the South Sydney club.
Appropriate action has been taken against the fan, and Panthers, Souths and the NRL are satisfied that the matter has now been resolved.
Panthers will not be making any further comment.
It makes you wonder what “appropriate action” is in this instance.
Did they allow her to leave the building and then have some complete and utter idiot run over and hit her in the face with a flag pool? I’d suggest no. That would be assault.
You have to wonder why the Penrith Panthers wouldn’t make it clear what action they took. Surely they would want to discourage any other idiot that may support their club from being so bloody stupid.
