It has been a long pursuit but finally the St George/Illawarra Dragons have finally captured the signature of Canberra Raiders halfback Sam Williams.
Williams is part of a very good halves rotation at the Raiders. The 22 year old has only signed a one year deal with the Dragons but I’ve not doubt he will play well enough to secure a much longer term future at the club.
The Dragons have big wraps on Canberra Raiders players. They have signed a few of them over the years.
Michael Weyman, Joel Thompson, Josh Dugan, Bronson Harrison, Daniel Vidot, Josh Miller…it seems like the best way to become a Dragons is to play football is the national capital!
The Dragons squad has been really poorly managed in recent season. Coming into 2013 it was as though the Dragons just didn’t even try to assemble a squad to achieve anything of note.
Picking up Dugan was lucky more than anything. Getting Gareth Widdop from the Melbourne Storm for next season was a good buy, but its anyone’s guess as to how he will come back from a dislocated hip.
It will be a handy halves combination if Widdop can come back and join Williams in the halves. It is a much needed new direction for the club.
lets hope that Steve Price gets a chance to coach a half decent team next season….
