Bit of a rumour doing the rounds that Wests Tigers utility Tim Moltzen may be on his way to St Helens.
The Saints have already captured the signatures of Luke Walsh and Mose Masoe, both of whom are playing fairly well for the Penrith Panthers right now.
So, who is Tim Moltzen?
Moltzen is a utility back for the Wests Tigers. He was a favourite of Tim Sheens before Sheens was sacked by the clubs at the end of 2012.
Moltzen is not a first grade quality player in my opinion. He is a handy player to call up when injuries strike though. He has played a lot at fullback and in the halves. He is injury prone though which is a major issue.
He could be a handy but for St Helens but it would really depend on where they played him. My guess is they would probably get him as a fullback, and he would be alright in Super League in that position but he wouldn’t set the world on fire.
He wouldn’t be the type of players I’d suggest that a Super League club should buy, however he is about the level Super League clubs will get from now on.
With the Wests Tigers pushing their juniors not first grade, and trying to free up cap space to accommodate Benji Marshall’s contract extension, Moltzen looks to be one of a few players on the outer.
