Young Panthers five-eight and former Australian test prop Joel Clinton will line up for the Brisbane Broncos in 2008 as the club has all but secured the Penrith pair to cover the loss of some of their own stars due to salary cap constraints.
Having lost Brent Tate this week to the New Zealand Warriors and with Shaun Berrigan expected to head to the UK at seasons end, the Broncos have a number of players they may be without next season including prop Petero Civoneceva and center Justin Hodges.
Its a good move by the Broncos.
Wallace had been solid as the Panthers best playmaker so far this season and Wayne Bennett see’s him as the halfback the Broncos have needed since Alan Langer retired.
Clinton meanwhile will be better off for the change. Bennett was the coach of Australia when Clinton broke into the Australian team and with a top coach advising him I’m sure we will see the best of Joel Clinton in the coming years.
As for the Panthers, they lose two valuable juniors, two relativly young players and two players they cant really afford to lose.
It would be very easy to blame this on the Matthew Elliott effect. This is more a symptom of how terrible the Penrith Panthers are run.
Expect the club to lose more players and memories of their $1,000,000 war chest to be long forgotten as the club bleeds players to better opposition over the coming years.
