South Sydney Rabbitohs supporters held a banner up on Friday night that said “Scum: Forever In Our Shadow” as they took on the Sydney Roosters.
I don’t see anything wrong with it…
If one supporter based thinks about club is scum, what is the problem?
Did anyone get hurt? No. Did it cause violent clashes between supporters? No. Did it upset Roosters supporters? Maybe a little bit, but I’d suggest no where near as upset as Rabbitohs fans were at upset after being beaten on home turf in the battle for the minor premiership.
As soon as the Rabbitohs banner was shown on television and across social media the false outrage brigade found a cause they could rally around. How dare they used the word “scum” on a banner.
While it might have upset a few delicate souls, I would suggest that most people didn’t care at all!
Sure there are lines that should not be crossed in terms of what is put on a supporters banner. You don’t want anything racist. You don’t want to see anything with swearing in it. You don’t want to see anything that targets a players personal life. Outside of that though, I think pretty much anything goes.
Rugby League is becoming such a sanitised, censored product all of a sudden. The administrators have turned into school teachers, telling supporters and players what they can’t do all the time.
What is wrong with Souths supporters HATING the Roosters?
Maybe Rugby League administrators and fans should just chill out a bit. After all, it’s a game we are supposed to have fun with and enjoy.
As a supporter, I want to see rivalries. I wasn’t to see teams that hate each other. I want to see supporter bases giving it to one another over results.
Roosters fans should have loved seeing that banner. They should have watched as the Rabbitohs supporters rolled it up and put it away as their Roosters side paraded the J.J. Giltinan Shield around the ground.
They called the opposition club scum. Who cares???
